What you say matters!

Whether it is a comments in passing, brief conversation, or a comment on Facebook; what you say can sometimes hurt worse than a physical action.  What a person is going through in their lives will often determine how they receive what you say. You may not know what they are going through and inadvertently hurt them with your comments.  Now there are times you do know what they are going through and are not considering there situation.  When we talk about people without knowing the entirety of what they are going through, we get into gossiping.  Nobody likes to be gossiped about, but what about listening to the gossip of others? In this digital age of social interaction we all like to be in “the know.” If we are honest with ourselves, most of us our tempted when someone starts gossiping. It’s that, ” oooo….I want to know, what happened now?” God’s Word says, “The words of a whisperer are like dainty morsels, And they go down into the innermost parts of the body.” (Proverbs 18:8 NASB). Friends, gossip is like a delicious dessert (morsel and/or candy). A temptation that creates a taste for more. The best way to resist this candy is the same way a dieter would, never open up the box!  We must understand that what you say matters! We all make mistakes and say things we don’t mean sometimes. At other times we say things with a purpose to hurt or offend others. We can try to justify our actions, but this is not consistent with how God wants us to react in these situations.  “Finally, all of you should be of one mind. Sympathize with each other. Love each other as brothers and sisters. Be tenderhearted, and keep a humble attitude. Don’t repay evil for evil. Don’t retaliate with insults when people insult you. Instead, pay them back with a blessing. That is what God has called you to do, and he will grant you his blessing.” (1 Peter 3:8-9 NLT)
